What will the phone look like?
Samsung offered their first in-depth look at the new phone at its 2018 developer conference.
The new display that will make the foldable magic possible is called Infinity Flex Display, and has taken seven years to develop, according to Samsung’s senior vice president of visual research and development, Hark-sang Kim.
The image you see above, is a render from the team at LetsGoDigital and is based on a culmination of details previously released by Samsung; including a recent Samsung video that was leaked online.
Previous blueprints released of the device, also revealed that it will fold up in a similar to how a brochure does.
Design Specs
Samsung’s folding phone will likely have two displays: a tall 4.5-inch 840 x 1960 screen on the outside or front of the device, and a foldable 7.3-inch 1536 x 2152 display on the inside.
The foldable 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display will unfold like a brochure, to offer a bigger screen when playing games, watching movies, or running multiple applications at once (yes please!)
Apps that are running on the smaller 4.6-inch display when users unfold the larger tablet display, will appear on the bigger screen in the same state you left them.
What will the phone be called?
There have been a number of rumoured naming conventions floating around; Galaxy F, Galaxy X, Galaxy Fold, and Fold are all on the table, but Galaxy F seems the most likely at this stage.
