Do I need an NBN connection box?

Depending on your NBN connection type, you may need an NBN connection box. Let’s look at each connection type and get you the answers you seek.

First off, if you do not know what your NBN connection type is, check your address at amaysim NBN. Once you know your connection type, click on the right technology below to find out if you need an NBN connection box:

 

NBN for FTTC: Fibre to the Curb

With FTTC, you need an NBN connection box.

This device will convert your NBN connection into an internet connection that your router can distribute across your personal devices. Your home should already have an NBN connection box and it looks like this:

 

I can’t find my NBN connection box, help.

If you’ve recently moved home, an NBN connection box should already be there.
Try to find it in common areas such as the living room, kitchen, studio or garage. It can even be located inside cupboards or cabinets, or mounted on the wall.

I still can’t find it, help.
If you can’t find an NBN connection box, this could be because you moved into a new development or the previous tenant/owner took it with them. Contact us, so we can help you get a new one.

I’ve received my new NBN connection box. Now what?

You would have received a Self-Install Kit. This has everything you need including instructions to install your NBN connection box by yourself. No NBN technician required.

NBN for FTTB: Fibre to the Building or FTTN: Fibre to the Node

With FTTB and FTTN, you do not need an NBN connection box.

All the infrastructure needed for NBN is already at your building or nearby. The only thing that you need is a modem compatible with VDSL2.

How can I know if my modem supports VDSL2?
This can be found in your modem’s user manual. Do a simple search online to find your user manual.

I don’t have a VDSL2 compatible modem. What do I do?

Not a problem. You can buy a VDSL2 compatible modem. These modems are easy to use.

NBN for FTTP: Fibre to the Premises

With FTTP, you need an NBN connection box.

This device will convert your NBN fibre connection into an internet connection that your router can distribute across your personal devices. Your home should already have an NBN connection box and it looks like this:
